The Centre was established in the year 1989 (as erstwhile 'Centre for Electronic Design & Technology' - CEDT) with the support of UNDP, MeitY (then DoE) & Government of Kerala. The present infrastructure is developed in 25 Acre campus & houses State-of-the-art facilities, smart class rooms, IEEE online access, 1Gbps NKN connectivity, Mini Data Centre & 24 x 7 Wi-Fi facility in lush green scenic ambience in Calicut, Kerala.
Laboratories are fully equipped with the latest systems and development tools in the area of Embedded Systems, IoT, VLSI, AI, DS, Cloud Computing and Cyber Security, 3D Printing, Product Design and Industrial Automation. Centre's Library is stocked with large collections of reference books in the above areas.
NIELIT Calicut also has fully furnished hostels (ladies & men's) in the campus that can accommodate around 250 students. The centre also has a Virtual Prototyping Lab (SMART Lab) funded by the MeitY which can cater to the hardware Prototyping needs of up to 200 concurrent users (students, researchers, faculty, start-ups and Innovators) from Anywhere and at Any Time.
